About Me

Hey Welcome, Bienvenido, ようこそ to my portfolio!

I'm Alejandro Elias Garcia, Mechatronics Engineer. I specialize in robotics and R&D, with nearly a decade of hands-on experience. My expertise lies in hardware design, development and mechatronics systems integration.

My journey in engineering began at a very young age, driven by a curiosity about how things work. This curiosity led me to disassemble anything I could get my hands on, by the time I was in high school, my fascination had evolved into a hands-on with electronics, culminating in the creation of my first robot using some basic sensors and actuators. This initial project wasn't just a hobby; it ignited a passion that propelled me into the world of competitive robotics. As a university student, I joined one of the world's most renowned international robot sumo teams, dedicating countless extracurricular hours to develop robots that ended up competing on a global stage.

Our focus on robot sumo, a niche yet highly challenging field, meant starting from scratch designing every component on the computer before bringing it to life through a variety of manufacturing techniques. From CNC milling and lathe operations to laser cutting and additive manufacturing, I mastered them all. This also expanded into the realm of electronics, where I progressed from etching copper plates with acid to designing and manufacturing sophisticated multilayer PCBs. Our team's dedication and innovation earned us the opportunity to compete internationally many times and achieving second place worldwide at the All Japan Robot Sumo Tournament in 2017, held in Tokyo, Japan.

This experience in competitive robotics paved the way for my role as a founding engineer at a company participating in the ANA Avatar X PRIZE. Tasked with designing a humanoid robot, I led the development as a mechanical design and manufacturing engineer of its arms, torso, legs, head, and neck, mounted on an omnidirectional platform. My work contributed to our team reaching the semifinals in Miami in 2021, where our participation placed us among the finalist teams, marking a significant milestone as we created the first humanoid telepresence robot in Mexico's history.

In addition to my technical expertise, I have also enriched my knowledge in entrepreneurship and business administration. Studying in Canada provided me with invaluable insights into entrepreneurship ecosystem through a course offered by Waterloo University. Furthermore, my learning continued at the Eugenio Garza Sada Entrepreneurship Institute in Mexico, where I expanded my understanding of startups. Eager to apply this knowledge, I co-founded a company to create easy-to-use robotics kits and development electronics boards for schools.

Currently, I am based in Singapore, working for an international company that develops autonomous vehicles. In the autonomy department, I apply my extensive skills in hardware and software development, troubleshooting, and project management. This role allows me to push the boundaries of what's possible, contributing to the future of technology that will impact thousands of people's lives for the better.
